If You Unfollow Someone on Facebook and Then Follow Them Again

I unfollowed everyone on my personal Facebook account, and it changed my life! Here's what happened.

Dorsum effectually November 2016, I started taking an e-course by Ruth Soukup, called "Productivity Guide for Bloggers". I was set to start taking command of my time and finally become more done!

In the very first affiliate, she talked about distractions and how information technology's so easy to become caught up in all the footling dings your telephone makes when yous become a new notification, whether it's from Facebook, email, or whatever else. Her claiming to us in that offset chapter was to plough off all notifications on our phone, to stop those distractions in the commencement place.

That was uncomplicated enough; I went to my settings and turned off everything, besides telephone calls and texts.

Then she told us to unfollow everyone on our personal Facebook list.

WHAT?

Facebook is how I keep in affect with my friends. It was my favorite social network; I like to run across how everyone is doing, to watch their kids abound, and stay upwardly-to-engagement with all the happenings of life.

But so I realized that unfollowing was not the same equally unfriending.

When y'all unfollow someone on Facebook, you stay friends but their status updates won't show upward in your news feed anymore; you have to manually visit their profile to encounter what they post.

It still gave me anxiety to think about it; what'll I practise if I can't see what my friends are doing?

Ruth gave it the term FOMO- Fright Of Missing Out. And it's existent, people. Have y'all tried going a twenty-four hours, or even a few hours, without checking your Facebook feed? Once you lot get dorsum, you lot find yourself scrolling for miles simply to make sure you didn't miss anything.

And I was guilty of that, even as far as checking my phone every ten minutes or so just to come across what was new.

Simply that was sucking abroad my time. The early on morning hours, which were supposed to be spent writing posts and doing blog piece of work, were now filled with looking through pictures of cute babies and strongly-worded political posts.

I had my phone near me at all times, checking my feed while playing with Allison and essentially ignoring her as I got caught upward in the news. I was tired of my time existence taken away from me, so I took the plunge.

I went through my list, and one at a time, I unfollowed every person on my friends list, and every folio that I Liked, except for two or 3 blogging pages. I put my family unit on the Shut Friends list, so that every time they posted, I would but become the piddling notification. And my news feed of a sudden looked very empty.

After a few days, though, I immediately noticed some changes in my life, and now I know I won't ever go dorsum to the mode things were. Here's what happened:

I stopped mindlessly browsing

You know what I'm talking nearly. You sit downward to cheque something and notice you have a Facebook app notification, then you look at information technology, but then something on your newsfeed catches your centre.

And and then y'all get stuck, scrolling down and down considering every other update is merely so interesting, and suddenly y'all look upward and realize 20 minutes accept passed and you have no idea how it happened.

That was so me, and it actually bothered me merely didn't know how to(and didn't desire to) fix it. Now that I've unfollowed anybody, I can't mindlessly browse if there's nix on my newsfeed to distract me!

I stopped feeling negative

I noticed that sometimes, after a mindless browsing session, I got a trivial depressed or aroused, considering I read Facebook posts I didn't similar. Someone posted a politically-charged bluster, or a link to a "news" story that has naught facts.

And don't even get me started on the comments on some of those. Never, ever read the comments. I've always said that you'll know the truthful character of someone by reading what they put in comments on Facebook.

Instead of reading them and fueling the anger it gave me, I just stopped following those people and the problem went away. There was a major difference in my mood; I feel much happier now that I don't have to worry about what I might see on my newsfeed.

I became more productive

Do you realize how much more than fourth dimension you lot have when you don't scan Facebook? Ten minutes here, v minutes in that location… information technology'south like yous magically gain an hour in your day!

I feel similar now I tin practise web log piece of work without distraction, and accept found other productive ways to spend my fourth dimension- like reading educational articles and things to meliorate myself. I don't actually learn anything on Facebook- except that people can be mean, and that what you lot see in those happy pictures isn't always what information technology seems.

I hope my Facebook friends don't read this and go offended. It has nothing to practice with not wanting to encounter my friends anymore, and I really do intendance. If I desire to see how a friend is doing, I manually get to the person's contour page and check the first few updates.

I love them all, I really do; I was just too easily distracted and needed to practice something to better myself and my family in the long run.

And to be honest? I don't miss scrolling through my feed anymore. I thought it would be harder, but information technology's no big bargain now.

What Happens When You Un-follow Someone on Facebook?

If you feel like your productivity is suffering and yous need a change, try un-following your friends and pages. Information technology's not permanent, and no one will know you lot did information technology. Here'south how:

I unfollowed everyone on my personal Facebook account, and it changed my life! Here's what happened.
  • On the top of the screen, click the down arrow on the right side, the dropdown card, and click on "News Feed Preferences".
  • On the side by side screen, click on "Unfollow people to hibernate their posts", and then you can pick and choose who you want to unfollow.
  • When yous click on a page or person, "Unfollowed" volition evidence upwardly in blueish text, and if you click again, you'll begin following them again.

Tin can a Facebook friend come across if you unfollow them?

If y'all unfollow a friend on Facebook, they won't exist able to tell. All that happens is that their posts no longer show up in your Facebook news feed.

Call back, unfollowing is Not unfriending! If you unfollow someone on Facebook, y'all'll still be their friend; you just won't see whatsoever of their posts in your newsfeed.

Take whatever of you already unfollowed about or all of your friends to be more than productive? I'd beloved to hear your story and how information technology'southward helped yous too. Just mail service a comment below!
